About Enso Hypnotherapy

About Your Therapist

My name is Barry Wharton. I am a professionally qualified hypnotherapist and I am committed to helping you to live a happier, healthier life.

I was trained by the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy, graduating in 2017 with the Certificate in Hypnopsychotherapy (CHP(NC)).

The National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy has meaningful external accreditation, notably with the UK Council for Psychotherapy, European Association for Psychotherapy and the European Association for Hypno Psychotherapy. My qualification is assessed at Masters Degree level and involves a minimum of 580 hours of training in the theory and practice of hypnosis and psychotherapy.

In 2016 I received the prestigious Bielby Award from the college for my performance on the course.

I am a Chartered Scientist (CSci) and Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science (FIBMS). I am a Registered Hypnotherapist and Member of the National Society of Talking Therapies (NSTT) as well as the National Council for Hypnotherapy (MNCH). I am a Fellow of the Complementary Medical Association (FCMA) and am also registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) which ensures that therapists are adequately trained and insured and adhere to ethical practice. I am a Certified Hypnotic Birthing Practitioner (CHBP) and am able to help with your antenatal preparation for your special event (see hypnobirthing tab for more information). I am a Certified Practitioner with the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) meaning that I am qualified to advise on adjunct treatments such as nicotine replacement therapy, alongside hypnotic interventions. I am also a member of the Brookhouse Hypnotherapy Group, a national group of select hypnotherapists with Shaun Brookhouse as the Principal.

You can be confident that you are receiving therapy from a qualified graduate of an internationally recognised school.

We are all different. I practice integrative therapy which means that I am not restricted to one approach. Instead, I select interventions from a range of therapeutic approaches in order to tailor the therapy to your personal needs as an individual, and as a result, better help you bring about the changes that you wish in your life.

Before training as a hypnotherapist, I worked for 15 years as a senior health care professional attaining the rank of Chief Biomedical Scientist in a large teaching hospital.

Subsequently I became a research associate in neuroscience during which time I published 12 scientific papers and achieved the status of Chartered Scientist (CSci).

My balance of clinical experience, academic qualifications and training, along with the understanding, patience and empathy developed in caring professions, enables me to help you to find ways to live your life the way you really want to.

Additionally, he is a UKCP Registered Hypno-Psychotherapist, an accredited Solution Focused Practitioner and an EMDR Therapist.

Shaun is the author/co-author of 5 books on the subject of hypnosis, coaching and ethical practice. He has travelled to 5 continents to teach on the subject and is considered one of the most sought after teachers in the field in the world.

In most forms of therapy, therapists must have regular supervision. This involves them discussing their cases with a qualified supervisor, to ensure that the therapist is offering the best possible service to their clients. All members of the Brookhouse Hypnotherapy Group are committed to receiving regular supervision from either Shaun Brookhouse or Fiona Biddle.
